Election Day, is the one day of the year where everyone gets to be political. Everyone has an opinion on election day. Besides being able to exercise your right to vote, what else does election day mean? I can tell you. One, there is a good chance you will be waiting on a very long line to have your voice heard. Bring a snack, a good playlist, or something to read. That way you can’t be bothered if someone wants to make “small talk,” when all you want to do is vote and go to work, or vote and go home. Two, the day after election day, people can take those damn bumper stickers off their car and your Facebook news feed will no longer be clogged up with political mumbo jumbo rants from people who are either too Rachel Maddow or Bill O’Reilly. All of a sudden your friends on Facebook start writing editorials on who YOU should vote for. Hey guys…I’m good. As far as I am concerned, no one needs to “advertise” their vote. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, beliefs, and that is one of the things that makes this country great.
One thing that is for certain is that we need to move forward as a nation in these next four years. Both candidates will provide some sort of change from the existing status quo, which has slowly but surely, gotten better. With that in mind, I decided today’s Song of the Day is:
Blind Melon “Change”
I miss Shannon Hoon and the Blind Melon boys. This was a band that never was able to reach it’s full potential due to the tragic death of Shannon Hoon, their very talented lead singer. But with “Change” you can tell that this band had the goods. They were more than just bumble bees and snazzy melodies like they gave us with “No Rain.” Hoon could wail. He had that voice that is so rare yet so amazing. Incredible control and tremendous range. All we can do now is remember him through the beautiful musical gifts that his band made for the world. “Change” is one of those magical gifts.
