Duos have had a long history of being successful in music. Sonny and Cher, Hall & Oates, Big Boi and Andre 3000, and you can now add Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel, otherwise known as Phantogram, to that list. Phantogram is an indie band from Saratoga Springs who came onto the music scene in 2009 with their debut album Eyelid Movies. Their sound, indie pop, laced with hip hop beats, swirling guitars, heavy rhythms, and smooth vocals, was a nice welcome to the indie landscape. Their debut album Eyelid Movies caught the attention of some major players in music. Big Boi, of Outkast, loved the duo so much that he enlisted their assistance for 3 tracks off his sophomore album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumours. (“CPU,” “Lines,” and “Objectum Sexuality”) Today’s SOTD is a classic from their Eyelid Movies album, titled “When I’m Small.” Listen to how this track bumps. It hits hard. That beat is vicious. Hope you enjoy. Phantogram’s second album is due out next month.
