Nice work Lorne.
The landmark institution that is Saturday Night Live, came under fire this year when starting its latest season and no ethnic actors named to the new cast. All of the new cast members were white. Then Kerry Washington, star of ABC’s mega hit Scandal, hosted the show, and killed it, bringing more fury to the table. When is SNL going to do something about it’s diversity problem?
Well Lorne Michaels, mastermind behind the successful comedic sanctuary at 30 Rockefellar Plaza has finally woke up and has hired, Sasheer Zamata, as the newest cast member to the NBC comedic ensemble. Zamata is the first African American female cast member since Maya Rudolph, who left the show five years ago. Zamata has appeared on Inside Amy Shumer and Totally Biased with Kaumau Bell. Props to Michaels and company for getting this done. A show as popular and groundbreaking as SNL should have a well diversed cast. The show takes place in the mecca of diversity of all places, New York City, so good to see Zamata getting her chance to shine on a national stage.
Maybe this will open the door for more minorities to pursue acting opportunities in primetime.
Sasheer Zamata makes her debut on the January 18th episode where the host and musical guest is Drake.
