It’s Throwback Thursday, so I’m going to take you on a trip back to 1999 and on a little musical journey with Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals. Ben Harper has been that alternative/hippy/folk guy for awhile now. He burst on to the music scene back in 1994 with his debut album, Welcome to the Cruel World. His second album, Fight For Your Mind became a favorite on college radio and brought Harper a little more into the mainstream. That’s when I first heard “Burn One Down,” which would go on to become one of my favorite songs during my college years. Harper would go on to become one of the great troubadors of the road through spending endless amounts of time playing live shows and sharpening his guitar chops. On his 1999 album Burn to Shine, Harper started experimenting with different types of sounds such as blues, soul, and folk. “Steal My Kisses” is one of the standout songs from that album. It’s a feel good, catchy, summer lovin type of song. Harper sings over a basic catchy guitar riff that makes me feel like I’m sitting round a campfire grooving with friends whenever I hear it. It’s easy. It’s fun, and Harper even throws in a nice beat box at the end. Enjoy today’s throwback SOTD, “Steal My Kisses” by Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals.
