Sultry rhythms are the forte of Lana Del Rey. I can’t figure out if I think she is the real deal or not. She was hit with a ton of buzz before the release of her second album Born to Die came out. The album did well commercially and showed the promise of a future star who could blossom, but was received with mix reviews from critics. The album did spawn the hits “Blue Jeans,” and “Video Games.” Then there was her disastrous performance on SNL. But she quietly rebounded with the remix of one of her songs from Born to Die, called “Summertime Sadness.” The song was a huge smash in the clubs and on radio, and Del Rey was rejuvenated. “West Coast” is the first single from her new album Ultraviolence. And I have to say, I really like this track. It is produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and it has a very cool, vintage feel to it. Del Rey’s vocals are on point on this track and the song is incredibly sexy. She just performed this track at Coachella this past weekend. Welcome back Lana Del Rey. Enjoy today’s SOTD, “West Coast.”
