Canada is jumping into the American live music scene again. I know that they have sent us Justin Beiber and Drake, but now they are bringing a little bit of heat on the rock side of things. Ought is a band out of Montreal and they have recently released their debut album¬†More Than Any Other Day,¬†a raw and electric collection of angst and excitement. Leading the fury of guitars and eclectic vocals is singer/guitarist Tim Beeler. Today’s SOTD, “Habit” comes from this album, and this is one of my favorite new songs out right now. “Habit” is a Talking Heads-ish ballad that hits a good groove. There is something about Tim Beeler’s spoken word flow in this song that sits well with me. When I hear Ought I instantly think about the Violent Femmes, Pavement, and Talking Heads. They had to be influenced by all three. But regardless of what I think they sound like, their sound just works. “Habit” is a great introduction to the world for Ought. They are a new band worth checking out.
