One of my favorite new artists to come out in the past couple of years is Miguel. I loved his last album Kaleidoscope Dream and he was equally as impressive when I saw him live in NYC 2 years ago. I recently came across a gem that Miguel made that appeared on the Vol. 2 soundtrack to Girls, the excellent Lena Dunham HBO show. The song is called “Simplethings” and it features Miguel doing what he does best, creating artistic soul music. The songs kicks off with a raucous electric guitar riff and you can tell this is not going to be some ordinary pop ballad. Then once Miguel’s lyrics kick in the song goes to a whole nother place and it rocks. Deep down, Miguel wants to make you rock. Prince is a major influence on him and you can hear that in his music. Check out today’s SOTD, “Simplethings” by Miguel. It’s off the chains.
