Common doesn’t get the props that he truly deserves in the rap game. My man from the Chi has been putting it down since 1992 when he introduced himself with his debut album, Can I Borrow a Dollar? He was known as Common Sense back then. He later dropped the sense but continued to beat us in the head with thought provoking rhymes ever since then. He has become a consistent fixture in the conversation of dopest MC’s. He has been a member of the Soulaquarians as well as with Kanye and the G.O.O.D. Music team. For his latest album, Nobody Smiling, which is due out later this month, Common re-teams with veteran hip hop producer extraordinaire, No ID to bring us a concept album about his hometown Chicago. Today’s SOTD is “Speak My Piece” a raw, rugged, banger featuring a Notorious B.I.G. sample. The song is vintage Common and is a great jump off for his new album which I can’t wait to hear once it drops.
