If you are a diehard fan of hip hop like I am and appreciate the artistry that is Kendrick Lamar, you have been eagerly anticpating what this intelligent and creative California kid was going to drop on us next. The main dawg in TDE is K-Dot, aka Kendrick Lamar, and today the interwebs were hit with the first single off his much buzzed, highly anticipated, sophomore untitled albumnew LP, which is set to drop before years end. The song is titled “i,” and it’s off the chains. It samples “That Lady” by the Isley Brothers, and has Kendrick going in about self belief, self assurance and confidence.  The track is uptempo set to the sped up beat of the famous Isley track and was produced by Rahki. We know Dr. Dre will be on board with top level production for K-Dot’s second album. But more importantly we are at an important time in Kendrick’s career. He is “that dude.” He is the next “great” rapper, so there is alot weighing on this new album. It will be very hard to top the greatness of good kid, M.A.A.D. City, because it was a classic. It’s his Ready to Die, his Illmatic, his Reasonable Doubt, but if “i” is any indication to how the new LP will sound, we should expect to be very satisfied.
