She’s making me a believer. Yup, I never thought I would say it, but I gotta start giving Tay Swift a little bit of props. First off, I am all about pop stars trying to reinvent themselves. Justin Timberlake did it. Bobby Brown did it. Nick Jonas is trying to do it. Prince does it all of the time. And now we can add Taylor Swift to the list. Tay Tay is not only one of the most successful country artists of all time, but she’s one of the biggest superstars in the world. She has been leaning towards full on pop dominance for the past two records. She almost fully went there with 2012″s Red. Taylor has always wrote her own songs, but Red was the first time she was assisted by some heavy pop hitters such as Max Martin, Ed Sheeran, and Dan Wilson. That album prdocued the hit singles “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “22,” and “We Are Never Getting Back Together.” Now Swift Nation is set to roar again with the release of her 5th studio album, 1989, next week. iTunes and the interwebs are already buzzing about the album. “Shake It Off,” the albums first single, debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Top 100. This album is going to bring in massive numbers and Taylor Swift could single handledly save the music industry with a monster release. (2014 has been another underachieving year for album sales) However, Tay Tay is going full on pop on this album. There is no more country twang for Ms. Swift. She has moved to New York, gotten her swag and girl posse of celebs, playing around with EDM, and finding her groove as a New Yorker. She has always been an extremely talented songwriter, but now she is becoming more of a performer and is capitalizing on her “it” moment. Today’s SOTD is the second single from 1989, “Out of the Woods.” I have to admit, this song is a banger. It’s catchy as hell. The song was co-written by Jack Antonoff of Fun. The song is filled with big lines that people can all jive too, and Taylor sounds great on it. If the rest of 1989 sounds like this, then this album is going to be fun. Enjoy today’s SOTD, “Out of the Woods” by Taylor Swift.
