In honor of headlining spots already mentioned at this year’s Coachella 2015 and NYC’s Governor’s Ball, today’s SOTD goes to the new king of emo R&B music, aka the real mayor of Toronto, Canada, Aubrey “Drake” Graham. Drake has been everywhere since his arrival on the music scene in 2009. Now he is on the top tier level in terms of both skill and popularity. For a rapper to be given the headlining spot at Coachella, is a pretty big deal. One of the last formats for Drake to conquer is the festival circuit, so expect to see his name at the top of the bills of many other US festivals announced in the upcoming months. Festivals usually mean serious bank for headliners while gaining the opportunity to open up an artist’s music to a wide variety of listeners. Drake may find these festival moves very beneficial towards enhancing his brand. I was very impressed when I saw him this summer on the Drake vs Lil Wayne tour, so I know he will be bringing straight fire to these large festival gigs. Today’s SOTD is “6 God,” a track that Drake dropped while making us wait for his next full length release, Views from the 6. Drizzy goes in all over “6 God.” Sometimes I wish that he would just concentrate on rapping because his flow is so dope. But I know, part of being Drake is tapping into that emo side with extra sensitivity and singing. He does that well too, so I can’t knock him. Just gotta roll with it.
